International private law

International private law is national legislation that indicates which law (national or foreign) a Dutch court must apply in the case of private law legal relationships in which foreign law plays a role. In a world in which it seems to be increasingly simpler to enter into trade relations abroad and in which more and more people spend shorter or longer periods of time abroad, it comes as no surprise to find that international law is playing an increasingly greater role for Dutch companies and private individuals abroad or for foreign companies or private individuals operating in Holland.

As an entrepreneur or private individual abroad you will be considerably more secure if you are backed by the appropriate advice in the field of international law. International divorce law

The Dutch courts may have jurisdiction in divorce cases involving Dutch nationals living abroad and foreigners living in the Netherlands, regardless of whether the marriage contract was concluded in the Netherlands or in a foreign country. In cases of foreigners with the same nationality living in the Netherlands, the law of their common nationality can, if need be, brought to bear by the Dutch court. The Dutch court also has jurisdiction in the case of foreign minors domiciled in the Netherlands.
